The Tcha-t project included the branding, packaging and app design for a Chinese tea range. The concept behind the branding is derived from the idea that tea is a social catalyst. ‘Tcha’ is the Chinese word for tea, and the full name is pronounced ‘chatty’, drawing attention to the social aspect of chatting over tea. This is further conveyed in the tin can phone the ‘Tcha-t Cat’ mascot is holding, with the wire forming into the typography.

A simple colour scheme with colours representing flavours was chosen, with the expression on the cat’s face portraying the effect of the flavour. The reverse side of the packaging displays cartoonised Terracotta Warriors, tea in hand, a nod to ancient Chinese terracotta tea pots.

The concept for the accompanying app is to give the consumer easy access to brewing times and tips as well as a history of tea from around the world.
